The Tiny House Movement


As Americans begin to recover from the recent real estate bust, many are looking for alternative ways to live that are more affordable and sustainable.  Jay Shafer's Tumbleweed Tiny House Company is meeting that demand with their minimalist styled, 89 sq. ft. homes that can be purchased for a mere $40,000.  The homes offer all of the basic home amenities like a kitchen, bathroom, bed, lounge area, and porch.  TTHC also sells tiny home blueprints that cost between $400 and $1000 each.  The homes can also be built on trailers which makes them great to use while traveling as campers.

Pencil Modding


Alexander Hulme grew tired of pencils falling out of his shirt pocket, so he came up with this ingenious solution of using a CNC router to cut a slot into the pencils which allow them to be fastened securely to his pocket.

Baton Rouge Municipal Dock Proposal // Trahan Architects


Trahan Architects recently released their proposal for the Baton Rouge Municipal Dock that will be an attempt to revive an abandoned dock (pictured below) located in the downtown area of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The proposed building would contain apartments, shops, a restaurant, and a public plaza overlooking the Mississippi River.

Shanghai Night Club Themed Condo


Residents of an ex-YMCA facility asked interior design firm, The Apartment, to remodel their condo to look like a Shanghai night club.  As you can see, the designers didn't hold anything back and the results are quite impressive.

Concept Traffic Light


If you're like me, speeding through yellow lights seems to be a daily thing.  Wouldn't you like to know how much time you have left before the green light turns red?  This concept traffic light by Thanva Tivawong does just that by presenting traffic light colors in a hour glass format.  It's a pretty clever idea and may help a few people from getting some traffic tickets.

Apprentice Store // Threefold Architects


A building known as Apprentice Store has been renovated by Threefold Architects and is now a modern family home.  The Apprentice Store warehouse building is located outside of Bath, England and after its renovations has transformed into a modern home with many naturally lit spaces.  It's always nice to see the architect leave a warehouse's heavy beam timbers exposed when doing a renovation like this.
